Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP)
The Veterans Review and Appeal Board is committed to responding to your requests for information.
How do I request personal information?
Please note that while the Board is an independent tribunal and is responsible for its own decisions rendered under the authority of the Veterans Review and Appeal Board Act, it is not the custodian of your departmental file. Our regulations require us to send a copy of all Board decisions to the Minister of Veterans Affairs for processing. For this reason, if you would like to request your departmental file, please address your request for personal information to Veterans Affairs Canada (search “ATIP”).
If your request is for personal information held by the Board (i.e. a VRAB decision), you may send us an informal request by mail in the form of a signed letter stating clearly what information is being requested. If you are requesting personal information that is not your own, you must include the person's signed consent. Alternatively, you may make a formal request under the Privacy Act by referring to the Act in your letter or completing this request form . There is no fee for accessing your own personal information under the Privacy Act.
How do I request information that is not of a personal nature?
If your request is for information held by the Board that is not of a personal nature, you may send us an informal request by mail in the form of a signed letter stating clearly what information is being requested. Alternatively, you may make a formal request under the Access to Information Act by referring to the Act in your letter or completing this request form. There is a $5 application fee for each formal request (money order or cheque payable to the Receiver General for Canada).
In addition to receiving documents by mail, you now have the option to receive your documents electronically through Canada Post Connect. This platform is a secure space for confidential information and documents. For more information on how to create your own account, please visit Canada Post Connect.
